Amid the controlled state of the drug problem in the country, the public is urged not to become complacent. The Director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Dato Paduka Mohd Zalani bin Haji Ismail, emphasized that combatting the drug issue demands coordinated action from multiple stakeholders, including family-oriented agencies, youth organizations, religious groups, unity associations, and non-governmental organizations.
As the forefront agency in battling drug abuse and trafficking, the NCB is dedicated to countering all forms of substance abuse. Dato Paduka Mohd Zalani emphasized that the bureau is unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding the country’s well-being and security. Collaborative efforts between these parties can lead to a comprehensive impact and contribute to resolving the nation’s drug-related challenges.
These remarks were made during the observance of the 2023 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT). The event was organized by the National Anti-Drug Association (BASMIDA) in partnership with the NCB and the Tutong District Office under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Dato Paduka Mohd Zalani commended the event as a symbol of determination and dedication in eradicating the menace of illegal drug use and trafficking.
He stressed the need to destigmatize ex-addicts, offering them a second chance for rehabilitation and reintegration into society. Acknowledging drug addiction as a recurring chronic ailment, he underlined the significance of a multi-pronged approach to recovery, which encompasses scientific methods, family therapy, and community support.
Dato Paduka Mohd Zalani underscored the complexity of treating and rehabilitating drug addicts, asserting that the process requires comprehensive assessment and engagement from various sectors, including families, employers, communities, and non-governmental entities. He emphasized the diversification of treatment and social programs to enhance public awareness and empower individuals to refrain from drug abuse.
The director hailed the efforts of various associations, highlighting the significance of their contribution in organizing events that foster community awareness. He stressed that the realization of governmental objectives hinges on the collective involvement of society at all levels. Dato Paduka Mohd Zalani urged continuous and expanded efforts to intensify the fight against drug abuse and trafficking, fostering a safer and healthier environment for the country.
