His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah of Brunei departed for Jakarta, Indonesia, alongside His Royal Highness Prince’ Abdul Mateen, to partake in the 43rd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits to be held from September 5-7.
Prior to departure, State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned conducted a Doa Selamat (blessing) ceremony at Istana Nurul Iman.
Members of the royal family, along with other dignitaries such as Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, Special Advisor to His Majesty, Cabinet ministers, members of the privy council, deputy ministers, the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, and the Acting Commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force were present at His Majesty the Sultan’s Flight Hangar in Rimba to bid farewell to the Sultan.
Upon arrival at Indonesia’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, His Majesty received a warm welcome from the Indonesian Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi. The Bruneian delegation also included the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II, Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs II, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, and Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Indonesia, Yuhanizah binti Dato Paduka Dr. Haji Ismail.
The ASEAN Summit, presided over by Indonesia, serves as a gathering for ASEAN heads of state and government, along with dialogue partners, to advance discussions on ASEAN’s development and the enhancement of cooperation with dialogue partners. The agenda particularly focuses on matters of mutual importance to the region.
