On November 1, 2022, Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) welcomed their new leader: Captain Sabirin Hj Abd Hamid. He had been the acting CEO of the airline since October 11, 2021. Prior to that, he held the chief operations post.
Captain Sabirin Hj Abd Hamid joined RB Airlines in 1988 under the airline’s cadet pilot program. He later moved to London Stansted to work with AirUK Airlines, flying the Fokker Friendship F27 as First Officer in 1989. Then in 1992, he returned to Brunei and joined Royal Brunei’s B757/B767 fleet, continuing as the First Officer.
His impressive trajectory continued when in 2007, he was appointed Vice President – Quality, Safety, and Security Operations. In 2002, he was promoted to Head of Quality, Safety, Security, and Environment.
This gives RB’s new CEO a boast-worthy three decades of experience to draw from. In his new position, his responsibilities include ensuring that RB Airlines continues to operate safely, reliably, and sustainably.
Captain Sabirin Hj Abd Hamid will have to work on upholding the airline’s spotless reputation, built painstakingly over a period of five long decades.
However, he is rapidly taking on the new challenges that his post has brought on. He aims to help the airline scale new heights by enriching the customers’ experience through flawless hospitality and unparalleled service. To that end, he has hit the ground running, getting busy developing RB’s young and modern fleet of aircraft.
Wholly owned by the Government of Brunei Darussalam, Royal Brunei Airlines Sdn Bhd is the national flag carrier airline of Brunei Darussalam, headquartered in the RB Campus in Bandar Seri Begawan. It operates a fleet of 14 modern aircraft, including five Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, seven Airbus A320neos, and two Airbus A320ceos. RB has been awarded a 4-star airline rating by Skytrax. It was also crowned with a Major Regional Airline Award by APEX Official Airline.
