Continuing education and skill development are crucial to remaining relevant in the job market, stated Dr. Hazri bin Haji Kifle, the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD).
He made these remarks during the award ceremony for the University Medal and Book Prize Awards. These awards were presented to UBD students who demonstrated excellence in their academic pursuits and contributions. The event coincided with the 35th UBD Convocation Ceremony.
Dr. Hazri emphasized that the ceremony, an annual event tied to UBD’s convocation, serves as official recognition of students’ academic accomplishments and excellence. He highlighted that such accolades promote a culture of excellence, motivating students to aim for high standards in academics, leadership, and community engagement.
He further stated that the recipients’ achievements encompassed a wide array of talents and skills, ranging from academic prowess to research, community service, art, and athletics. Dr. Hazri added that these accomplishments reflect UBD’s holistic approach to education.
Aligned with UBD’s motto, ‘Ke Arah Kesempurnaan Insan’ (Towards Human Excellence), he underlined the importance of students’ dedication and commitment to both academics and personal development. These attributes, he noted, are pivotal in preparing students for their post-education endeavors.
One of the recipients, Nur A’ishah binti Haji Khairul Amir Shahrin, who achieved first-class honors in Bachelor of Engineering in Energy Systems, was awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Medal for her exceptional academic merits and leadership qualities. In an interview, she expressed gratitude for UBD, acknowledging her hard work and achievements.
The ceremony also saw the presentation of University Silver medals to the best final-year Bachelor’s degree students and University Book Prizes to outstanding Master’s and Bachelor’s degree recipients. Various other awards were also conferred, such as the Chinese Ambassador Award and the Excellence Awards from Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd.
Datin Seri Setia Dr. Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, the Minister of Education and Chairperson of the UBD Council graced the ceremony as the guest of honor. The event took place at the university’s Chancellor Hall and was attended by notable dignitaries, UBD staff, sponsors, and family members.
The occasion not only celebrated academic achievements but also underscored the importance of continuous learning and personal development in today’s evolving job landscape.
