The efforts taken by Brunei Darussalam’s Ministry of Health to bring the number of Covid-19 cases under control have shown encouraging results so far. According to the latest updates, Brunei showed a decreasing trend in new COVID-19 cases. This was announced by Dato Seri Setia Dr. Mohd Isham Jaafar, the Minister of Health.
He made this announcement in the weekly press conference, which was also attended by Dr. Ang Swee Hui, the Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health. According to the minister, 170 new cases were reported recently. All the positive cases were the results of the antigen rapid tests (ARTs). No cases were detected from the laboratory tests of RT-PCR.
Last week, the average daily rate of cases reported was 223 per day. Previously, there were 350 cases reported daily. Four percent of the total 38,751 ART results were positive. The weekly ART results were uploaded to the BruHealth application. There have been no cases reported in Category 5 and Category 4 that require treatment at the ICU, respiratory assistance, and close supervision.
The minister shared that the rate of Covid-19 vaccination coverage in Brunei was at a high level as of January 15, 2023. A commendable 79 percent of all residents and citizens have been administered the third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. The fourth dose has been given to 11.7 percent.
According to the last press release published on the health ministry’s website, there was only one case in Category 4. The total number of recovered new Covid-19 cases was 224.
