The recently published Hinrich-IMD Sustainable Trade Index (STI) 2022 by the Institute for Management Development (IMD) World Competitiveness Center and the Hinrich Foundation has declared Brunei Darussalam as one of the most politically stable countries in the world. Out of the 30 economies considered by STI 2022, the Sultanate ranked 3rd for political stability and absence of violence.
The same index also stated that the Sultanate topped the charts for controlling air pollution under the environmental pillar, as well as for conventions on climate change, protection of the ozone layer, hazardous wastes, and international trade in endangered species.
The Hinrich-IMD Sustainable Trade Index (STI) 2022 also detailed other societal features, including the Sultanate’s stellar record in setting a good example in terms of laws protecting against the dealing of goods produced through forced or child labour.
The research presents a detailed overview of the diversity of policies and other major economies, providing a roadmap of where Brunei Darussalam can improve. The study provides 70 points indicators or data points taken from analysing 30 major economies across the globe. These points are all segregated and grouped into different sections or pillars based on the goals they align with, which can be any one of the following: long-term goals of economic growth, environmental protection, or societal development.
Hinrich-IMD Sustainable Trade Index (STI) 2022 serves as a beneficial study to regulators, businesses, and communities, who can use these scores to improve the country’s policies and fast-track economic prosperity. Check the full report for Brunei here.
