In a remarkable step towards sustainable transportation, Brunei has reached a significant milestone with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the Centre for Transport Research (CfTR) of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) and Grand Motors Sendirian Berhad. The MoA marks a collaborative effort to advance the development of an Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station in the country.
The agreement was officially sealed during a ceremony held at UTB’s main conference room, with Datin Paduka Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Hj Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB, and Pengiran Haji Abdul Qahar bin Pengiran Sanggamara Diraja Major General Pengiran Haji Ibnu Basith, Executive Director of Grand Motors Sdn Bhd, signing the MoA. The collaboration aims to leverage the expertise of both entities to establish efficient and accessible EV charging infrastructure in Brunei.
Playing a pivotal role in this initiative is ABB, a renowned provider of innovative EV charging solutions. With their comprehensive range of products, including on-demand electric bus charging systems, powerful DC fast charging stations, and high-quality AC wall boxes, ABB is setting the stage for a future of emission-free and reliable mobility in Brunei.
The strategic partnership between UTB, Grand Motors, and ABB will contribute to the development of EV charging infrastructure that meets the demands of the evolving transportation landscape. ABB’s extensive experience in building and managing charging networks, coupled with its commitment to quality, safety, and affordability, positions them as a key enabler of Brunei’s sustainable transportation vision.
Already, Brunei has witnessed the inauguration of its first retail quick charging station, known as “Shell Recharge,” located at the IBA Petrol Station in Lambak. Operated by the Brunei Shell Marketing Company (BSM), this charging facility features a 175 KWH quick charger capable of charging an EV from 0% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes. The introduction of Shell Recharge signifies Brunei’s commitment to utilizing cleaner energy sources and aligns with the nation’s climate action goals.
BSM remains dedicated to closely collaborating with relevant authorities to address the evolving needs and requirements stemming from the increasing ownership of electric vehicles in Brunei. With sustainable transportation gaining momentum in the country, Brunei is poised to benefit from the advancements in EV charging infrastructure, enabling its citizens to embrace greener mobility options while contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
